Etsy is filled with beautiful treasuries – there’s one on the front page right now. These curated collections are a great way to connect with other artists. Today’s tips will help you get started with treasuries – or improve if you haven’t had much luck with them. It’s a snap, you’ll have it down in no time!

One of the most common errors of first-time treasury makers is navigating away from the page while working on a treasury and losing all their work. Keep the in-progress treasury in a separate tab or browser window to make sure you don’t accidentally blow things away. You can also using the TreasuryBox extension for Google Chrome, which will save your in-progress treasury even if you reboot your computer!

Once you have pasted an item’s Listing # in the box, you can click and drag the image around to different positions in the treasury.

First, it must be beautiful! Treasuries that use current merchandising themes and are tagged appropriately stand a better chance of making the front page. Only use one item per shop – don’t worry, there are LOTS of shops to choose from.

Treasuries are ways for you to show your love of curating, art, handmade and vintage goods. They can be wish lists or a way to express your mood. They can be used for all kinds of things, but they shouldn’t be used to promote yourself. Including other people’s work in your treasury is a way to share the love and become part of the Etsy community.

Etsy doesn’t have a long list of rules to follow, but it’s good to be aware of the few. Treasury titles and tags cannot contain profane, racist or mature content. If you include an item that could be considered mature, label the treasury using a tag of  ‘mature content’. Play nice – don’t reference people, items or shops in negative ways. Just like my mama used to say, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”
