The U.S. Postal Service will be changing shipping rates on January 22, 2017. This shipping calculator turns the near-indecipherable USPS rate charts into an easy to use tool for updating your shipping profiles and listings.
Notable for 2017 are increases for domestic shipments – including First Class, Parcel Select, Priority Mail, and Express Mail. The rates for international services remain the same. Take a look at my domestic shipping article if you need a crash course in weighing and packaging.
The rates shown below are commercial base pricing offered by Etsy, PayPal and other online vendors. Be sure to check the prices against your vendor to make sure they’re using commercial prices. Expect to pay more if you show up at the post office without postage. Pricing for flat rate items is included in the table below.

I’M TRYING TO GET PRIORITY MAIL COST ON 17 OZ. BOX – MEASUREMENTS ARE 12 1/2″ X 9″ x 5″ – WHAT IS COST?
Marion, you can use the calculator to find the cost but you need to also include the destination where the package is heading.
Thank you for keeping this accurate!! I sell on Facebook and Ebay and this is my GO TO place for a shipping quote. (someone referred me a couple years ago) It is easier to use than the USPS site and is accurate for Paypal rates. Thanks!!
Why isn’t the USA in the country list?
Chase, USA is not listed as an international shipping destination option because the USA is considered domestic mail by the USPS.

I’m not sure I’m using the tool correctly. The price for a 13 lb Priority package in zone 4 on USPS click-n-ship is $22.45 and it appears that through Etsy both Priority and Parcel Select postage would be $15.11? Is that correct?

Without knowing what zip code you are shipping from and shipping to, I cannot double check on the USPS site. My calculator uses commercial based pricing. USPS Click-n-Ship no longer uses commercial based pricing. That may account for the difference in price that you are seeing.
I’ve always been a little confused about this. If I am sending a priority mail regular size package and it weighs 1 lb 4 oz, do I put on postage for 1 lb or for 2 lbs? Since I can send a 1 lb pkg (16 oz) w/1st class mail, I am hoping that if it’s over 1 lb, but not 2 lbs, I can ship at the 1 lb price w/priority mail. Hope that makes sense.
Kelly, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you round up in these situations. So your 1 lb 4 oz package rounds up to 2 lbs. Even the tiniest fraction over 1 lb would need to be considered 2 lbs.

How does it work in terms of dimensions (or girth) if mailing in a poly mailer? Thanks for all the great info!
Jackie, it depends on what you put inside it. Girth is the distance around the thickest part (perpendicular to the length). Hope that did the trick. Let me know if you are still needing help.
The calculator does not give the correct rates if you can not enter the size.
Kathy, it is true that this tool does not account for all package types (over-sized, balloon, etc.) The tool is simplified to make it accessible for the majority of users. Thanks for bringing this up, this might be a good thing to add to the disclaimer on the page.
