Friday’s Fast Five: Shop Appearance

on Jul 29th, 2011 | in Fast Five

Friday’s Fast Five is a series on Brittany’s Best where I share five quick tips that I’ve found helpful as a seller on Etsy.

Etsy makes it easy to sell online and does a lot of heavy lifting for you – but there are still steps you can take to improve your shop appearance. Make your shop clean, beautiful and organized with these fast tips!

Make your banner simple and inviting – stretched, blurry or loud banners will distract customers away from your products. Tune in next week for a tutorial on how to make a simple banner using free software.

Remember that your shop avatar is a representation of you and your product. Some people use a cropped version of their logo, others opt for a close-up photo of their creation. Make sure it’s not your DMV photo!

Announcements help introduce customers to your shop. Use keywords that are descriptive of your items, but keep it brief; if you find yourself writing an essay, consider putting it in your profile. This is a prime opportunity to let people know how your items are unique.

Shoppers of handmade items want to know about the artist they are buying from. You don’t have to go into the nitty-gritty, but do share a little bit about yourself – such as why you craft and what inspires you.

Organizing your items into categories helps shoppers find what they need. The Etsy blog article, Guiding Buyers with Shop Sections, covers some ways that you can organize your shop – by item type, price and even shipping turnaround.
